Hello, this is my first year trying notill on beans. My area has basically zero notill because the soils are generally very heavy. I have a half section that happens to be pretty sandy and is well tiled.

I planted an eighty notill in cornstalks on 30" rows, then I double planted another eighty notill on cornstalks in a diamond pattern.

Neither field looks very good. The beans are pretty pale and yellow. The field was fertilized heavily with p & k (about 150% of soil test recs). I didn't really apply any N besides what was in the MAP . My sulfer levels are marginal as well.

In the first years of notill on cornstalks should I expect to have to apply some additional N? I applied my p & k in the fall over the top. I didn't dare apply N or S in the fall for fear of losing it all. Do I need to do a spring application of AMS or something to make this work well?

On virgin fields going to soybeans, always heard it's very important to double inoculated your beans. Don't think that is the cause for the pale yellow color, but you would notice the differance at pod set time. Somebody will probably post a more helpful answer for the condition of the beans currently. Good luck
