| The pattern is based on the potency of the male and the company preference for cutting and pulling tassels by machine as well as harvest equipment. As far as destruction of the male row it is done as soon as pollen shed is over to prevent volunteer the next year. Secondly it is done to avoid problems from lodging in the event of a late season windstorm. In our area they used to leave the male to harvest but if you get big wind and are forced to harvest the downed females unfortunately some males are in there and that just presents another set of problems. | |
