NoDakFarmer - 5/6/2015 12:43 When a whale wants to "work off" their positition, is that business usually done in the coil/contraction areas before a pivot or would they need to be doing that while already going with the trend so to speak?

Hi ND,

Great question.  Not necessarily all of them - but certainly there would be some of that - not to mention, not all pivots coil first.  They probably each have their own style, but it's likely they are letting some go while the flow is with them.  Another possibility is while one is getting out, another - larger whale is working to get his position the opposite direction.  There is also some of where the whale just calls his clearingfirm, and gets a price for "large".  Maybe the price quoted is outside of the days range completely.  If the deal is done, the whale is out, the IB/clearing firm has the position now, and they need to deal with it.
