One thing I will say is that I am optimistic about getting out of this drought and getting back to more normal rainfall totals. The last two years we have had to use a lot of water just to get the cotton to emerge. For that reason, I have not fertilized the milo like I should. With the drought, I didn't think I could keep the water on it enough to justify the extra fertilizer. I put some fertilizer on this year and think it will pay off. We don't see a lot of milo over 5000 lbs in this area.in most years.
Glyphosate drift was a problem for everyone in this area this year. A lot of spray records having to be shown to TDA this year.
I knew that Milo is an excellent drought tolerant crop. However, I wondered about the corn, its rotation, and the roundup resistance. Some guys around me have started trying to grow some corn and seem to be doing well. I don't know what they have water wise and this year we have had lots of rain. I may try the corn on one of my best water pivots next year. | |
