Subject: Re: Taxpayers Turn U.S. Farmers Into Fat Cats With Subsidies

Nevada, Iowa
I have sounded off about this subject before, it never fails to amaze me how many farmers here are so dead set against subsidies through crop insurance. The part that is confusing to me is why crop insurance is the target. Direct payments, counter cyclical payments and even CRP are largely ignored or at least not the focus of long discussions on NAT. I guess there is even money available to seed cover crops at certain times. Interesting to say the least but that is not the sole reason for this post.

I read a lot about insurance fraud (or at least my definition of it) whenever one of these discussions come up. There is a hotline to the RMA to report fraud and discrepancies. Maybe the first step to cleaning up problems with crop insurance is close to home?
