What got 90 million acres planted was not crop insurance as much as $7.00/bu corn and $16.00/bu soys. Of course, the recent high grain prices are what set the high guarantee insurance levels, so, one might argue insurance is why the acres got planted... Perhaps chicken and egg question? And don't the high cash rent offers. Who would accept a $180/a CRP payment when you can get $300/a cash rent? Once again, those cash renters probably carry the max crop ins levels, so, crop ins is the culprit----but if grain prices were dropped by 1/2, where would be crop ins levels be? Cash rents? ACRES PLANTED? what is the egg and what is the chicken?
