Subject: RE: what psi underground pvc pipe

Dietrich, Idaho and Mountain Home, Idaho
We have had very good luck with 80 psi pip here. IF you do a good job of bedding the pipe(meaning you get the bottom and sides filled good for support) you won't have any problems. But if you get in a hurry and don't get that support under and beside the pipe it probably won't matter what the pressure rating of the pipe is because it may eventually break. We put in over 4000' of 80 psi pip(15", 12", 10", and 8") this past spring for a gravity pressurized pipeline(has 55 psi of pressure at the most, 35 psi at the least depending on elevation of the fields) and are putting in another 4000' of 80 psi pip(10" and 8") this fall to finish this project out(our next project will be installing 15,000' of 15" 80 psi pip). Some of the 10" and 8" will be on its third go around(we have dug it up, pulled it apart, and re buried it) and it looks just as good as the day it was originally installed because it was installed(over 30 years ago) correctly not quickly. Three feet to the top of the pipe around here is the goal but sometimes 1.5 to 2 feet is what we get. We haven't had any problems here but I don't know your situation.
