Texas/New Mexico Stateline | A lot of areas around here, it is not economical to pump anymore, because the previous generation got the easiest and best water to pump. Aquifer recharges at a very very slow rate. It would take centuries to replenish it if pumping was stopped. We are supposed to have a 50/50 rule where 50% of the water should be left 50 years from now. A lot of areas it should still be usable 20 years from now. Other areas it will no longer be, in spite of the rules. |
