DE | Have 75 acre field. Planted about half of it in rye cover crop (two separate strips) last fall. It was sprayed way late this year about 4 days before planting (fully headed and full height) with gramoxone, atrazine, and princep. I pull a 6 row strip tiller with solid wheel packer and 6 row planter all in one pass. I've planted into some fairly tall rye just headed out before but nothing like this. Decided to use flail shredder and cut high stubble about 12-15". I felt stupid trying to plant into such a mess. I got an excellent stand and where the rye was the corn is a mcuh darker green and growth wise looks like it is about 7 days ahead of the other (planted about 30 days ago). Same fert and same stip till planter on entire field. What is causing it to be greener and taller.?
should also add that I sprayed a small strip of rye , where I'm putting a new pivot, earlier when it was only about 12-15" tall and it doesn't look near as good as where the tall rye was.
