The private hog setup around here is the other way. They built the feed mill along a rr track just in case (no spur put in over the past decade tho), but they buy like crazy from farmers directly, put up their own drier, and seem to deal more with individuals than coops or big suppliers.

I can see the different points to both ways of doing things.
