Ohio | If you want to load background maps you have to have the box checked beside background maps in the filter box of the save to cards screen. The variety locator itself does not show the variety in the background as a map on the 2630. You can set the 2630 to beep when changing variety though. Your on the right path with the background maps to see it as you are harvesting. Set up the variety locator in apex prior to saving to the flash drive. You can only have one planting task per field though(ex. planting and replanting, you have to decide which one you want to use for variety locator) I dont' know it it matters or not but I always check the varieties under products-crops, when saving also. On the 2630 check the box to use variety locator as sserven suggests. We use this feature and have pretty good luck with it, however it is not without its quirks and problems.
Re Read your post and seen you have the background maps checked. Its probably something with the variety locator setup in apex. Good Luck
