WAAS is rated at 6-8" pass to pass accuracy, within a 15 minute window, 95% of the time. So if you go up one line and down the next that's your acceptable level of drift in the system.

For $2000 you can update a Trimble display (any current units but the 250) to Omnistar. Omnistar has three levels of accuracy.

XP is 3-5 inches for $800 a year.
HP is 2-4 inches for $1500 a year.
RTX is 1.5 inches for $1500 a year.

The downside to omnistar is it takes a bit longer to aquire and lock in than WAAS, so you'll have to let the system sit and work on it for 20 minutes or so before using it. But it's pretty fantastic after that.

RTK is another $2000 unlock after omnistar (need both), and also requires a radio or modem in the cab to send/receive data, those are around $1900 normally. A subscription to an RTK network, assuming you have on in your area, is USUALLY around $1500 as well, but that is up to your local provider.

In my opinion, if you're new to the game and looking to get started, WAAS it up. If that isn't accurate enough for what you need, Omnistar is a passcode upgrade away, and RTK another passcode and a little hardware to go that far. It's easy to upgrade a system after buying it, but you can't return a passcode should you find you don't need that level of precision.
