In a different thread Ringo said It's a mystery as (surprisingly) all USB cables have fitted in the same sockets since they first became the norm. The data handling ability has increased from USB1 to USB2 and now USB3 on the latest, but they still should interchange. That is the full extent of my knowledge on USB 3.0edit: I did a little searching. Apparently you are supposed to be able to plug your 3.0 cable in a 2.0 receptacle and a 2.0 cable into a 3.0 receptacle. The new pins 3.0 uses don't contact anything until put in a 3.0 receptacle. But it may be harder to insert. I haven't seen a 3.0 so ican't say anything from experience ... other than I get skeptical when geeks tell me it ought to work.
