"Normal" GPS works fine in tree cover with all but maybe the cheapest GPS units. Your not going to get inch accuracy with one, but it should get you close enough for what you're planning.
Some GPS units used for precision guidance receive an extra signal that can be affected by tree cover, but be an issue for you.
