| Depends. If all he needs is internet access while in class, the iPad would be a better choice. If he needs to do anything with spreadsheets, word processing, etc - then a laptop would be better. The iPad does have Apple's Pages and Numbers apps, but they sure wouldn't be as handy to use as Office or Open Office on a laptop.
If he doesn't need the Office capability, but would want to use the iPad for note taking, I'd want to opt for either the keyboard dock or Apple's wireless bluetooth keyboard to go with it. The virtual keyboard works great, but I think a full size physical keyboard would be much better for heavy use. | |
