i had a similar issue. older laptop would not connect to wireless router. it used to, but just quit one day. could see big bucks bill if i took it in somewhere. i bought a usb wireless antenna adapter on ebay for around 10 bucks. loaded the driver that came with it, and it has worked great ever since.
