Why would you say Open Office is a worst case. Works good, is free, can import/export multiple formats and works on both Mac and Windows. Is my first choice. I'm not part of the fan club for either Mac or Windows and don't see much point in giving either of them more cash. Had some old Lotus spreadsheet files and Open Office had no problem with them. Try that with a current version of Excel and you will have problems. I don't think Open Office would have trouble with any of the file formats listed.
