Subject: 2001 75 hp mercury outboard, good?, bad? anything i should know?

Manitoba
I don't know much about boats (nothing might be better descriptive term) Dad asked me to go look at a 2001 1600 capri bayliner with him tomorrow that has a 75hp merc outboard, 2001 and thought i'd ask here just in case there is something I should know or look out for. won't be first boat but the bottom end self destructed on the old merc 65 hp that he had and the old boat is also getting tired. thought this might be a good replacement. the boat is used mostly for pulling kids on the tube, maybe a little skiing / wakeboarding but nothing serious and some cruising around the lake. not much fishing. this size style would fit in the boat house so that is a plus as trying to avoid replacing that at this time.

thought about getting a new 4 stroke and putting it on the old boat but seems like going with a newer used boat and motor will be cheaper but at the same time don't to by some garbage either.

opinions? advice?

thanks a lot.
