Subject: Will bins pay?

west central MN

I know there have been several guys questioning bins paying for themselves this year. At harvest we had about a $2.60 cash price at our local elevator. Today we can haul the corn about 20 miles further and get a little over $3.05 for it. The basis has improved a bunch and they are now bidding off the March futures. The Dec CBOT price is actually a little lower today then it was when they had the $2.60 bid so we have gain close to 50 cents on sold bu. I figure we have about 10 cents more in hauling so that is still a 40 cent gain. I am still hoping we get a little better basis and there is still carry to July so I don't think we are done gaining value with the bin. I would also need at least one more truck driver and another truck if we where going right to the elevator out of the field. That does not include figuring in any drying charges at the elevator compared to home either. There is no question I my mind that bins pay.
