| I have been working to set up things up for stockpile grazing and grazing cover crops this year. I am going to "attempt" to graze year around. I have grasses that will be mowed Aug 1-7 and then spread with a little nitrogen for stockpile. I also might get the chance to graze cover crops after some wheat. I will have excess grass till first frost hits and then all my canary grass will be close to worthless.
I am thinking something like triticale, some sort of rye or even go back to wheat again on the cover crops. What covers hold up best for winter grazing in everyone's experience?
Anyone who has tried this before and has any other advice it would be great. I realize I might not make my goal of going year around but if I could cut down hay feeding season to 1-3 months that would be great.
This is in Indiana if that helps. | |
