Subject: Hunter/Enviromentalist Encounter

southern mn.
I have a 25 gallon tank on my Ranger with a spray wand. Yesterday I was spraying around a field of corn located by a main highway to eliminate any ragweed or other weed escapes on field edges. Just finished up and I noticed a car parked on the edge of the gravel road off the highway and a guy "excersizing" his two hunting dogs. Since I am a hunter and dog owner I thought I would drive up next to him and converse about his dog. First thing that came out of his mouth was, "Are you spraying roundup?" I explained what I was doing trying to eliminate weed escapes. That's when he started to go off on me. Telling me that I was "KILLING THE BEES" I kept calm, telling him that glyphosate was the safest chemical I use and does not harm the bees and he that he should do some research before making statements like that. He said he's "done plenty of research". Then he told me I was breaking the law by "mowing roadside before August 15th" and started ranting about farmers. I told him he was misinformed once again and I finally drove away.
When I got home I was really ticked but then I was more disappointed. What has our society become? I could see if it was a young, indoctrinated person in a group protest to get their picture in the paper, but this guy was maybe 60 years old and it happened on our turf! I wish now that I would have told him to follow me to our farm a 1/2 mile away and showed him our 2 miles of filter strips and wildlife food plots or should of I grabbed him by the back of his neck and put his face where his dogs did their "excersizing"? How would of you guys handled this?
