Subject: Son dropped his laptop, now not recognizing hard drive

nc ks
My son dropped his Dell laptop on the hardwood floor. It is not recognizing the hard drive now so it won't boot into Windows 7. I took a peek inside the hard drive while it is still connected, and when you power up the computer, the recording head makes a few swipes across the disk and then the computer goes to the screen where it is asking you for a boot source of some kind. I went to the diagnostics and everything checks out except it doesn't find the hard drive. A new Western Digital hard drive exactly like the one in the laptop is only $40 on Amazon. Do you think it is only the hard drive that is bad? If I get a new hard drive will it be plug and play if I find a Dell boot CD? I don't think we have a CD(but we may somewhere). Is there a source for the CD if we don't find one here?
