Subject: Underground 500 gallon fuel tank, now above ground, drain?

Statesville, NC
I have a 500 gallon tank that was taken up and now I'm going to use it as an above ground tank. It does not have a drain on the bottom. How is the best way to install one? The metal is heavier than an above ground tank, and I had thought of drilling and tapping to 1/4" pipe, but I'm not sure there would be enough threads to seal good.
Also, how is the best way to support it? It's just a plain round tank. I thought of taking two pieces of 6x6 pressure treated wood and cutting a semi circle in each one, to support each end.
