SW Lower Michigan | I just purchased a 6.5 acre parcel on which I plan to build a new home and machine shed. No one claimed to have a had a copy of the land division survey. I even contacted the owner previous to the guy I bought it from with no luck. When I contacted our county surveyor I was told that they have the orginal survey but I will not have access to it. But, for $450 they will mark the corners for me. I have been able to find 3 of the 4 corner survey rods with plastic caps. My goal was just to have the survey on file if needed in the future and to be sure I mark my corners properly. Has anyone else experienced a surveyor making what appears to me to be a money grab like this? They told me they were just protecting themselves, is this what our lawyers have brought us to?
