Subject: ceiling light /dimmer switch ?

We're just finishing our remodeling project. Waiting om a new exterior door that was back ordered & we will finally be done. We put in a new ceiling light / fan combo over the kitchen table. Fan is wired directly to a wall switch so only wires shared with the light is the neutral. Installing the light we noticed that you were not suppose to use a dimmer switch with it. Electrician said he had never heard of such a thing. I know that you're not suppose to use a light dimmer on a ceiling fan but as stated the fan is wired seperately and this warning was with the light instructions not the fan's. Light could be used by itself or in combination with the fan. Anyone know why they put this warning label in? Electrician already had the dimmer switch installed & the light works fine with it. Any reason not to leave the dimmer in?

Another question on the light. When we ordered the light we were told it would handle up to 60watt bulbs. It came with 40s, small base candelabra type. Wife bought 60w small base ceiling fan lights for it . When we installed the 60s the light won't work. Even with three 40s & one 60 it won't work. Wife got to checking & it said in small print to use 40 watt max. Only thing the electrician can figure out is that there's some type of safety device in the light. Anybody else have a light this way? Is this something "big brother" is forcing on us?

Thanks.
