Subject: Should I add stalls or sell cows?

Kaukauna WI
We are pushing 60 and have no one that's going to take over our farm. We have 185 cows milking and dry and about 19% overstocked right now.

We buy all our corn. Raise all our forage (hay and corn silage).

Two things have become apparent:
1) The cows are suffering somewhat due to overstocking; and,
2) Feed is expensive and probably not going to be cheap again in our dairy lifetime.

Should we add on 40 stalls to make it more comfortable for them?

Or should we sell 40 cows and be able to grow SOME of our corn?

OR should we sell enough cows so that we can grow ALL of our feed?

How would each of these pencil out, in your minds? I'd say we have another 7-10 years left in us.
