Subject: Tub Grinder Screen Size

We have decided to bale the stalks and husks that come out of the rear of the combine this year. We plan on running the bales through our Haybuster tub grinder and mixing it with corn silage and DDG to feed in our grower ration to 600 pound steers. Does anyone have an idea on the screen size to use? Also, would oval holes or round holes be a better choice in this situation? Right now there is a 5” and 6” round whole screen in for prairie hay. I feel these may be too big. Just not wanting the calves to sort the corn stalks out. Thanks.
