My first attempt at planting a cover crop. Planted oats the first week of Sept into a plowed wheat field for ground cover for the winter. I was hoping the oats would freeze off and breakdown enough that I can plant directly into the oats next spring. Well it hasn't froze yet and it won't for the forsee able future. The oats are a foot tall or more in places. Will I have wet mat of dead oats in the spring that will cause me problems.
