Subject: Sub 3 dollar corn

Central Missouri
Corn trades in a range and the range is reset higher about every 30 years because of monetary inflation. In the early 70's the high in corn was set around 4 dollars. The low end of the range was 1.20 or so. Corn would then trade down to 12.5% of that range several times over the next 30 years. Thus it got down to around 1.65 several times. The upper end of the new range is now 8 bucks or so and the lower end is around 1.80. Thus corn will trade down to the 12.5% of the new range level or 2.60 several times over the next 30 years or so. Tttp taught me this. You guys can figure ought what ought to be done when corn is below its 25% of range and above its 75% of range. It's that area between 25% and 50% that is difficult for a lot because of the greed part of the compendium.

We really do need to wash the 12.5% of range out this fall to get it behind us. We are going there anyway some time. We are protected by crop insurance and the farm program. Are we gonna do it this fall I don't know but it will make decisions easier if we do.
