Subject: Does variable rate pay?

Southeastern Indiana
We have both our corn and bean planter variable rate ready. We are making simple prescriptions based upon multiple years of normalized yield data. Last year we variable rated our dry fertilizer, seed, and sidedress nitrogen.

It all worked really good, but did it do anything? It is hard to evaluate whether it helped or whether we wasted a bunch of money on technology. It is easy to look across the fence and see yields as good as yours while the neighbor is incorporating no technology.
