Spring Ranch, NE | One of my best college friends went through this with his dad when his mom passed away. His mom was the one that watched the cows through calving season while his dad was in the woods logging. He(college friend) is an engineer at the coal mine so they switched to stockers and run 500 head. They start buying a few all fall until the end of the year. Feed as cheap as they can through the winter and turn out to grass. Sell when the grass is gone in August typically. Fits their work schedule better. He made okay money on a couple turns, but lately he has been breaking even at best or losing. That is the way most things are now though. | |
