Subject: Unverferth Seed Runner Belt Cleats

Iowa
It sounds like having the cleats on these belts crack at their base is a common problem. The last couple of winters, we have cut out the worst looking ones, but they are all looking poor now. Just last week we finally had one tear off and go unseen into the CCS tank on our 1990 air seeder. It blocked a delivery tube well and we had to end up draining seed from a full tank in order to get it out.

We are probably looking at installing a new belt for next year, but I have seen at least one poster say that (on a Meridian brand tender) he replaced the cleated belt with a chevron style and had better performance and less seed damage than with cleats. It was a lot cheaper than buying an OEM cleated belt. It got me to wondering if anyone has just tried cutting ALL of the cleats out of a Unverferth belt and running it that way? The belt itself is still in good shape, we just don't want to have the risk of another cleat going unseen into the CCS tank. What do you think?

Thanks!
