West Central Minnesota | Being in a similar business for the day job, parts going NLA is usually factors of:
Inventory turns/carrying costs get out of whack
Volume per year is low
Supplier jacks price up
Supplier just says no (making money/priorities are now elsewhere)
Supplier is no longer in business or tooling got thrown away (very common on parts more than a couple years old)
It's hard to find a supplier to make a handful of parts per year for something that is out of production at any price. Add a decade or more since the part was originally on the assembly line and it's a whole another level of difficult.
Third party companies will fill the gap if they see a market need with their lower overhead and not always built to the same spec for lower cost.
