North Central Illinois
All of the corn is emerged and stands are possibly the best ever. Some beans have emerged and the rest are coming along. We have been very short of moisture since last fall really. We've had very little rain this spring up until about ten days ago. We finally got a little over two inches ten days ago and have had a couple of small shots since then. Things will really begin to pop later this week with the forecasted warmup. I am happy with where we are right now if I
knew we were going to have timely rains the rest of the season. Unlike central and southern Illinois we have zero subsoil moisture in northern Illinois and that is what we rely on when the tap gets shut off in July and August. For right now the potential is huge but we have less subsoil moisture than we have had at any time since 2012.
