Nope, there are areas in the SE part of the state that can grow big bushels, especially when we are wetter. Fair amount of tile going in where it makes sense to forfeit government payments. Generally those areas have had very good crops when we have been above normal on moisture. The ground is not the limiting factor, the amount of rain is however.

My point again is, if the low spots do not get somewhat filled up, then the high spots will probably be short moisture. A lot of areas are behind by 8-12 inches of rain. Rest assured, if they get caught up by the end of the summer that some, possibly a lot of those holes will be filled in again. Some people that are more familiar with tile and outlets have no idea how long it has to get dry for a lot of this stuff to dry out in order to plant. If they get 5" of rain this season then the low spots might be real good and the rest of the field pretty poor. The amount of PP in that area last year could potentially have a positive impact on yields, but can only help so much.

It will be an interesting year to watch. I hope this upcoming system gets them started on the way back to more normal rainfall.
