That will probably make you feel good but the odds of getting the queen deep down in the mound are pretty slim. A good insecticide is a lot more effective, cheaper, quicker and easier.

Way back when I was really young my two brothers and I would dig out a big chunk of a mound with a shovel and put the dirt and ants in a different mound. The workers would have a fierce battle and the next day you could see a lot of dead ants around the mound. The next week you would see several new small satellite mounds of ants. Those things don't give up easy!
