Around here there is plenty of good ground that is in CRP, while the marginal stuff is often still farmed in other places.


For the simple reason they pay $265/acre for good ground down there and $60/acre for marginal. I signed 4 acres up last fall for some stuff that was farmed for 50 years that was 50-100% slope. Got 60/acre. It was the “right thing to do” and will stay in grass once contract i up. The flat ground here that will produce 180 bushel corn brings 100/acre so not so that attractive.
