We change all the barrels on our 8 series tractors when they get to around 10,000 HRS. We've found, if you have settling issues with some SCV's, then the rest aren't far behind. There is a poppet in the back of the barrel that goes bad. Deere used to sell rebuild kits for the barrels for $10 or something, but that disappeared a couple years ago. It's not cheap, but if you plan on running that tractors a few more years, you won't regret it. Or we haven't so far. We put between 500 and 700 hours per 8XXX tractor on our farm per year so it's nice to know things are in good shape.
