It is due to the worldwide shortage of processor chips. Covid forced many to work from home. That required many to upgrade their computers/laptops. That also forced businesses to upgrade their servers, causing ISP's to upgrade their equipment. This ate up a HUGE amount of processor chips. Also due to Covid was the decline in vehicle sales so all the manufacturers scaled back production, and again caused everything else in the supply chain to scale back, manufacturers switched to making other processors where needed. They had a story on 60 Minutes last week on the shortage and the biggest chip manufacturer said they should be caught up by late June (i think he said) but there will still be an 8 month lag due to the rest of the supply chain needing to catch up. |
