| We have a 16/31 1240 that we plant beans with. Will 2nd that they are very heavy, all the weight is on the 4 inner tires when the planter is out of the ground. You don't want to get in a wet spot with it. Weve left some pretty good tracks in places that didn't look wet. We don't do much no-till but it will do a good job of seed placement without no-till coulters due to the offset opener disc design. Ours came with no-till coulters but we took them off. Did no-till a 15 ac hayfield with it & got an excellent stand.
We owned a Kinze 2600 12/ 23, 3600 16/32, & a JD 16/ 31 1790 before going to the CIH planters & IMO, the red planter does a better job of seed placement & depth control & than the others. FWIW, the 3600 had row cleaners on the corn rows. IMO, they threw too much trash on the bean rows when planting beans, so wont buy them on a ultra-narrow row planter. We do run clean sweeps on our 30" 1250 corn planter.
We usually pull our 1240 with a Magnum 315 but on occasion have had it behind a Magnum 275. Planter is hyd drive, both tractors have the high capacity hyd pump plus duals on the front. Most of our ground is fairly flat but do have some that is roll, but not what I would consider hilly. Have no issues pulling the planter with either tractor.
