Each state has its own rules on that, it often is best to run such past your sheriffs office so as to know you have the notification of the owner correct. Is what I hear. Legally. The way you communicated to the owner a year ago might not have the i and T dotted and crossed right.
In general, I would agree it’s abandoned in such a case.
