Subject: RE: Just getting broke in

Early 8X20 series tractors only had a 2 micron fuel filter. The gerotor lift pump on the back of the high pressure pump had pressure and flow capacity that could lead to breaching the fuel filter. This partially or unfiltered fuel would wear the holes in the injectors which would increase fuel delivery. The fuel delivery in the HPCR system was calculated by rail pressure, known orifice size of the injectors and the time the injector was opened. When the nozzles wore they would increase fuel delivery. Have seen some crazy HP on the dyno from tractors with worn injectors. Install new injectors and they’ll be back in spec.

On an inline mechanical pump you loose hp as the pump and injectors wear but the opposite happens on a HPCR system.

Around the time of the muffler shape change the fuel filter system changed to a 10 micron primary, 2 micron secondary. This solved the filter breaching problem and the subsequent wear on the injectors. These tractors will stay closer to rated power during their life.

The smaller models had different pistons than the 8520 and would fail pistons if they were running too much hp. If you ever fail a piston in a 8X20 you should always replace the injectors.
