Hazelton, Kansas | Glenn,
I think your estimate of 5 extra acres is fairly close.
Assumptions:
1. The horizontal long dimension of the largest of your 3 fields is about 3000’. That’s roughly the N-S horizontal distance.
2. Slope is constant. Not true, but it looks close, from the pics and slope map.
So, the hypotenuse (which is what you farm) would be the square root of (3000x3000 + 760x760). That’s 3094.77’, an increase of 3.16%.
Gorgeous country, Glenn. But, even seeding notill into heavy residue, I have a hard time understanding how you guys control erosion. But you must be controlling it, or your valleys would be filling up by now. Amazing to me.
Are you in the little green 25”+ area that shows up on the Washington rainfall map?
Regards.
