I feel like by mass vaccinating we are selecting for vaccine resistant variants. Rendering the vaccine useless for those that need it most. I know Fauci says the opposite, but I can't figure that logic out. Maybe I've used too much glyphosate.

In a small way you’re correct that if everyone was vaccinated, the only virus that would/could circulate would be the completely resistant strains. However, the new strains are all still controlled by the current vaccines and they can be modified to control new strains that arise if need be. In the meantime, new variants are arising because the virus (all types) is circulating in the population. Less virus replication, less mutations, fewer variants, vaccines continue to work, people who have immunity from having had the disease or from ????? stay immune to the little virus that’s circulating.......what’s not to like?

So, for the cow guys...... you have a herd of cattle that’s got parasites. Most are fine, some looking a bit tough, BCS is lower across the herd than in years past. There’s even a few with bottle jaw but hanging in there and you lost one yesterday for some reason. She raised a good calf last year and bred back on time but she just went down hill fast after her calf was born. Speaking of calves, theyre looking a bit lighter than in previous years and many of them have a dry faded looking hair coat.......

Do you treat for parasites or not? If you do treat, you’re certainly selecting for resistance, if you don’t treat, maybe you’ll loose another, one of the bottle jaw cows nursing a calf probably.

The US (human) population is the herd and COVID-19 is the parasite. Do we worry about selecting for resistant viruses or do we vaccinate the herd as best we can and eliminate the most parasites possible before we loose another cow and have lighter calves to sell this year?

Oh but wait, old Bill down the feed store says you can use some of a trailer truck load of TBZ paste he has stored out back from 1976. That’ll clean those cattle out and won’t make those drug companies any richer! Never mind that TBZ was the first in its class and hasn’t had good efficacy in 40 years so newer “zoles” have been developed though to some degree there’s cross immunity already developed in the worm populations.

Then there’s some guy on Facebook that says you should use diatomaceous earth because it’s old as dirt and you don’t know the long term effects of those new cutting edge dewormers that have university trials data showing greater than 95% efficacy in bringing fecal egg counts to undetectable levels.

Then there’s the young college graduate that says he learned that you will make faster genetic progress if you kill off those old cows as fast as possible. You’ll soon have a great (small) herd of cattle adapted for your local conditions if you just let those wormy cattle die. After all they WILL die in the next few years anyway, why spend any money on them? It’s their time to go and who cares if it’s this month or next year after they’ve weaned another calf.

Then there’s the local chiropractor that you told about your herd. It’s his professional opinion that the cow that died the other day didn’t die FROM parasites, she may have died WITH parasites and really shouldn’t be counted as a parasite death because the state vet didn’t come to the farm and do an autopsy.

After all those extension guys are really leading all the cattlemen by the nose these days. They’ve got all those guys believing parasites are a problem and doing things like deworming before moving to clean pastures, rotating dewormer modes of action and yada, yada, yada. Can you believe how gullible those guys are, they’re about like a bunch of sheep?

What to do?
