Subject: While I was Mayor

Central Illinois
We had a list of farmers wanting our lime. As stated, they should provide an analysis so you know how much you need to apply. It won’t be in tons. This lime is very fine and very fast acting. If you can cover it and let it set for a year, that might help dry it. In Central Illinois, heavy metals haven’t been a problem.

Something even better, if you can get it, is city sludge when they clean out the settling basins. If you don’t have a factory, small town sludge is great. Again, it needs to be Tested. While mayor, we cleaned out our basins. I couldn’t get any nearby farmer to take it, so I did. Applied about 5-6 tons per acre at about 35-40% water with a liquid manure slinger. Thirty bushel better corn, to the row. For several years. According by o the analysis it wasn’t that much fertilizer. I figured the microbes must have done something crazy good.
