South Georgia

Seems to me you guys in the south should be able to harvest before Sept (new crop) price drops?

Yes, here in South Georgia we harvest mostly in August, basis September, but that's our 'new crop' price. Some years if we can get delivered before the end of July there's a pretty good premium, but not every year. It's something to shoot for anyway.

Our local elevator has been booked up from mid July through mid September since January this year though. If it's not already contracted, you gotta do something with it. And down here where hurricanes are a legitimate concern, leaving it in the field is NOT a good option.

Also, by the middle of September, peanut harvest is in full swing, which leads into cotton harvest, which generally goes through at least Thanksgiving or all the way through the new year, depending on the weather.
