The information becomes public in 90 or 100 years after census date.
The ag census comes at a poor time, but the reason the general census comes in early May is quite obvious. At least in a "normal" year, it's the time when most Canadians are living at their "permanent address", the least amount of confusion on which place constitutes being at "home". College and university classes have ended, and students have returned to their parent's place if that's what they do; the six-months-in-Florida/Arizona Snowbirds are back. It's before Victoria Day cottage openings, and while young kids still in school before summer vacation.
