We did a cruise about 12 years ago. We had another one planned last June that we got cancelled on.
This was all through Princess Cruises from start to finish.
We flew to Fairbanks. It was suggested to fly the long trip first then relax the rest of the way back. We spent a couple days on tours in Fairbanks. Then we boarded the Princess train to Denali. Stayed there 2 nights. Boarded the train and went to Whittier. There we got off the train and walked across the highway and got on the ship. Went to see the Glaciers. Made several stops on the way down to Vancouver. Then flew home.
Balconies are always nice on a cruise. Get one if you can. Cruises are great.
We have always liked Princess. Royal Caribbean ships are out of this world. A bit more pricey but you will see a wider range of ages on Royal Caribbean where Princess will be for the more mature crowd.
If you book your airfare through the cruise line they will see to it you will get there if there are any delays or changes in flights. They will also pick you up and transfer you to and from the airport. May cost a bit more but well worth the ease of traveling.
Add, you will all need passports if you get off the ship at Vancouver.
After reading your post again and with those ages. Consider Royal Caribbean if you want to WOW everyone. I think they have their own train????
