Lb94 - 5/3/2021 08:55 Every days a good day rotational grazing. One takeaway I think I'm gonna move forward with my stocker operation I'm trying to grow is take care of your grass, price doesn't change much on that input so I think the goal is to grow good enough forage to put on 1.5 lb of gain on straight grass. Every day is like first day of spring when you move them daily, heels kicking and running around playing graba**
Amen to that!
We're not going to get rich quick growing and grazing grass but you have more control of your own destiny. Next step is to sell your product direct to willing buyers.
That 2nd part might be the hardest pill for me to swallow but something i'm looking into, direct marketing is a tough gig. I don't have a hard opinion on the whole grass fed vs. grain fed beef thing have eaten plenty of both and quite frankly I just love eating beef in any form. For right now going to keep on with the commingling of light weight stocker calves and kick them out on grass. Bottom line at the end of the day my #1 goal is to find more grass to rent possibly buy around here and work towards my "part time job" becoming my full time job working less hours behind a computer screen nothing better than working out on the land, i'd trade taking care of cattle in -20 everyday of my life or building fence in the 100 degree heat everyday than to work from a desk like I do now. Then again it does make choring at 5 in the morning and after work everyday that much more enjoyable.
