Yes, steroids can raise blood glucose levels. Making the problem worse. Some other prescription medicines can also aggravate the situation when it comes to diabetes.

Lots of things (like cancer) are affected negatively by high blood glucose levels and especially spikes. Because people can have spikes but never know it even if their doctor does an annual A1c test. They can be insulin resistant, but their pancreas can still put out enough insulin to bring the spike back down to normal fasting levels. Most full blown type II diabetics were on their way to becoming diabetic ten to twenty years before diagnosis.
